William Seabrook was in Haiti at the begining of the 20 century (1929) and wrote a book about his experiences in that island: people who met, vudu sorecerers, zombies, antropology...
I bought the book in spanish edited by Valdemar: http://www.valdemar.com/product_info.php?products_id=472
The most impresive vudu rite decribed in the book: a young pretty woman falls in a trance during a rite and a buck begins sexual relations with the woman. After having sex, the buck's gaze resembles the woman's gaze, and the woman's gaze seems to be the buck's one. Then, one of the haitians takes a hatchet a cuts the buck's neck. It seems that the blood of the buck is really the woman's blood, because her soul is now inside buck's body.

This is a link to questia.com to the book by Seabrook: http://www.questia.com/library/book/the-magic-island-by-b-seabrook-alexander-king.jsp. You have to get suscribed to read anything.
