I like Class, forgotten about that one.

Nearly through the old one and it's as good as ever. The new one is slicker and darker but the original is scarier.

The wife found a continuation error though - the first Glick boy to die when he comes back and is knocking on the window is in pyjamas but he was killed in the woods while walking home, so unless Straker (James Mason) killed him and then put him in them it's weird why he should of been flying in his nightwear??!!

I love both and would always want to watch both. The old one reeks of hot nights and sweaty grubby dirty town scandal while the new one does it in a colder more remote hidden depths of depravity of the normal townsfolk. The new one knows that people know the original so can have much more dialogue and back story as not just there for the jumps.

The Barlow character even though very Nosferatu in the original TV series is still better than the Rutger Hauer version even though this is nearer the books depiction. The policeman in the new version though is a much better character but the Straker in the new one is not as good as the James Mason moody menacing ambivalently evil character that is as good as the Tall Man .

Congratulations to your wife!
Nosferatu look alike is gorgeous. Rutger have nothing to do with such marvellous precedent...

The more I watch the new version of Salems Lot the more I waver to this being my favourite version especially the speak over parts by 'the typist'. Even Rutger looks better on further viewings. I never get bored of watching either version of this classic and this was a late Halloween treat watching this again and not one second of the film seemed slow or watched before. 9/10
